Here, it's a matter of visual acuity.  Capt. Stubby apparently cannot tell where the surface of the water is, when it's still.  So he reaches his paw into the bowl, then tugs/pulls it toward him, just enough to get the water to slop over the edge.  Voila!  Instant puddle on the floor, and the surface of the water is "dancing," enough to tell him how deep to dip his tongue. Goofy fuzzer!

>Tell that to SARI!!!  I don't know how she manages but both of the smaller bowls I use for their water always have a puddle under them after she's used them!  I don't have that problem with the big dog bowl I have in the kitchen but I've even had to put a tray under it to catch water splashed when Sari starts a wrestling match in that area with Kali or Penny!  One or the other invariably bodyslams the bowl!
