[Cats] Luv-Bug

Sammie, our tuxedo cat has always been more emotionally needy than any of the rest of the Hairy Herd. She was one of the "Fab-5" litter of 5-wk-olds I fish-netted into our family six years ago. If she could articulate her life's philosophy, it would be, "I can get bigger, but I don't hafta grow up!" I maintain that she got cheated on brain space--were she human, we'd say she's "developmentally challenged." We should have named her "Linus," because she kneads and wool-sucks, every chance she gets. Good thing she doesn't have an opposable thumb, or she'd be sucking IT! But she's SUCH a fierce bug hunter!

Anyway, in the last week or so, she's taken to climbing onto my lap, and up onto my chest. Then she rests her chin in the hollow of my neck, tucks her front paws under, and purrs away, contentedly, for up to ten minutes at a time, just below my ear. Of course, whatever I was doing on the 'puter at that time, is suspended while I hold and pet her until she has decided her emotional need has been met. Then she hops down and goes off to other purrr-suits. I don't know if she's thinking, "Thanks, Mom - I love you," or just feeling more safe and secure.

But if it's true that pets are good for our blood pressure, and that cat owners suffer 40% fewer heart attacks and strokes than dog owners, then I'm very lucky to have been adopted as often as I have.
