From valoriez at zimres.net Mon Sep 2 23:52:53 2002 From: valoriez at zimres.net (Valorie Zimmerman) Date: Mon Apr 25 05:47:03 2005 Subject: [Seti] Seti@home Project is expanding Message-ID: <3D744025.3000908@zimres.net> I haven't seen this on the list, but this was in the last Sky & Telescope's Weekly News Bulletin: SETI@HOME SPELLS OUT NEW PLANS More than three years after it began, the SETI@home project has announced plans to expand its hunt for radio signals coming from intelligent civilizations among the stars.... The biggest advance is that SETI@home II should gather about 10 or 15 times more radio data per day, on average, than now gets recorded at Arecibo (the new system will span a wider frequency range and listen to several spots on the sky at once). This means that at long last, the project will have enough raw data to keep all its volunteers productively busy. Right now there are more than twice as many volunteers as are needed to do the current job; at least half of them are being sent duplicate data as make-work.... http://SkyandTelescope.com/news/current/article_724_1.asp From listpig at earthlink.net Tue Sep 3 00:02:03 2002 From: listpig at earthlink.net (Ms. Piglet) Date: Mon Apr 25 05:47:03 2005 Subject: [Seti] Seti@home Project is expanding In-Reply-To: <3D744025.3000908@zimres.net> Message-ID: <5.1.0.14.0.20020903000133.009fbe20@pop.earthlink.net> Hmmm, now to get an OS X version that doesn't destabilize the system..... --pig, tapping her toes and waiting At 11:52 PM 9/2/02, you wrote: >I haven't seen this on the list, but this was in the last Sky & >Telescope's Weekly News Bulletin: > >SETI@HOME SPELLS OUT NEW PLANS > >More than three years after it began, the SETI@home project has >announced plans to expand its hunt for radio signals coming from >intelligent civilizations among the stars.... > >The biggest advance is that SETI@home II should gather about 10 or 15 >times more radio data per day, on average, than now gets recorded at >Arecibo (the new system will span a wider frequency range and listen to >several spots on the sky at once).
